MAKER
Next to Normal
As the technical director and carpenter for Asian American Theatre Project’s production of Next to Normal (dir. Chloe Chow, set designer Andrew Yung) I created a full scale wooden set that featured a moving staircase, a hanging medicine cabinet, and more than 200 square feet of elevated, weight-bearing platforms at various heights.
Next to Normal story centers on a mother who struggles with worsening bipolar disorder and the effects that managing her illness has on her family. I was tasked with executing Chloe and Andrew’s vivid and surreal visions for the show.
