Celestial Excellence Rocket

In Winter 2022, I enrolled in an independent study with ME Professor Dan Somen to design and build a set piece for Drag Troupe’s outerspace-themed production, for which I served as artistic director.

Although I could have painted a few aliens on a backdrop or used space rocks from the Stanford Theater ad Performance Studies prop closet, I challenged myself. Drawing inspiration from retro-futuristic art and media, I constructed a 13’, 3-dimensional spaceship that served as the show’s centerpiece.

​Confident in my carpentry skills, I ditched the comfort of rectilinearity and designed it with a nonagonal base. I designed and fabricated over 130 individual parts, which I then assembled and painted over the course of a weekend.
